Hip-hop nerds have been arguing a new list of the best rappers of all time for weeks, with Jay-Z at the top. But now Lil Wayne has entered the discussion and declared himself the G.O.A.T.
The subject of Billboard's 50 Best Rappers of All Time, which they published on February 8, was discussed during a visit by Weezy on Zane Lowe's Apple Music podcast show. To LW's surprise, he came in at just #7, below a number of other artists.
The publication places Biggie, Eminem, Tupac, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, and Jay-Z ahead of him, but Wayne begs to differ, especially when it comes to those who are still alive. He declares himself to be the number one person outright and even challenges survey participants to inquire of the men who came in higher than him. He believes they would concur that Wayne is superior to them.
As usual, everything here is just subjective, and it's not really apparent what standards Billboard is using to determine who is superior to whom. It appears that they are positioning Jay as the top dog based on his overall achievement, which he has unquestionably attained.
