Laura Ingraham, a Fox News anchor, has gotten a lot of flak over a tweet she made about student loan forgiveness.
"My mother worked as a waitress until she was 73 to help pay for our schooling," says Ingraham, whose show airs at 10 p.m. ET. "Even debt repayment was made easier. For those who follow the rules, loan forgiveness is just another affront."The public reacted negatively to Ingraham's statements.
Liz Dye wrote, "I'm very sure Laura Ingraham could have paid off those loans herself at any point in the last 35 years." "Admitting that she let her mother work tables until she was 70 years old to pay off that debt isn't the flex she thinks it is."
"Laura Ingraham has worked in high-paying jobs for law companies, media outlets, and even presidents since the mid-'80s," one user said. "Why was she still working her old mother to death in order to pay for her education? That is a slap in the face to people who have paid off their own debts."
"I paid for my own college while Laura Ingraham suckled from her waitress mother's teat," one person wrote.
One Twitter user even calculated the difference in student loans from the time Ingraham attended Dartmouth to the present day.
Anne Caroline Ingraham, the Fox News host's mother, worked as a waitress at Willie's Steakhouse in Manchester, Connecticut, until 1994, according to a 1999 obituary in the Hartford Courant.
Laura Ingraham was a lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, a prestigious Manhattan law firm at the time.
