Jennifer Lopez's new documentary, Halftime, takes viewers behind the scenes of her historic Super Bowl halftime show, which she co-hosted with Shakira and featured Lopez's daughter, Emme.

While the halftime show was praised for its message and clear entertainment value, the new documentary, which premiered on Wednesday at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, exposed the behind-the-scenes rollercoaster of adjustments and tensions.

One of the initial squabbles stemmed from the fact that there were two headliners, which she felt detracted from what both she and Shakira had to offer in terms of a halftime show.

"Having two people do the Super Bowl is the dumbest idea in the world," Lopez declares at one point, as she struggles to plan out her performance within the limits imposed by the NFL on her crew. "It was the worst decision I'd ever made."

Lopez's longtime manager, Benny Medina, reiterated her comments, criticizing the NFL or suggesting that the Halftime Show should feature two Latina women

One of the show's most memorable moments came when Lopez and Shakira were joined by Lopez's daughter, who began her performance from behind a metal cage while singing Lopez's song "Let's Get Loud," before the three of them sang Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA."Lopez's objective with the performance and the addition of cage imagery, in response to Donald Trump's draconian immigration policy, was to send a forceful political message.

It was also a nearly-missed opportunity. During the final dress rehearsal the night before the Super Bowl, Lopez heard that the NFL producers want to remove the cages due to political ramifications.

Lopez recounted telling Medina, "I don't care what you have to do, we're not modifying the show," after Medina stated the concerns were from "the highest authority" without being more explicit. The brilliant musicians then put on a spectacular Super Bowl Halftime concert the next day.Lopez chatted with ET's Rachel Smith at the premiere on Wednesday, and the acclaimed entertainer remarked on the film's release.

"Being here is truly surreal. Being from New York, I was at the Tribeca Film Festival for the first time "Lopez spoke on having the premiere of her documentary in her hometown. "I'm looking forward to seeing the film. I have yet to view the completed project. I'm nervous, but I'm also excited, and there's no other place I'd rather do it than here. As a result, we've arrived to this point."
Halftime will be available to stream on Netflix on June 14th.
