Glenda May Jackson CBE was an English actress and politician. She won the “Triple Crown of Acting”, winning two Academy Awards, three Emmy Awards, and a Tony Award. She was appointed CBE by Queen Elizabeth II in 1978.

Glenda Jackson, a two-time Oscar winner and former UK politician, "died peacefully" at the age of 87 following a brief illness, her representative announced to PA Media.

Jackson, who was born in 1936 in the western English town of Birkenhead, joined a community theater company as a teenager before being awarded a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

She gained fame in London's West End after graduating, and in 1965, she made her Broadway debut in a production of "Marat/Sade."

The screen came next. She earned her first Academy Award for Best Actress for the part she played opposite Oliver Reed in the 1969 historical drama "Women in Love."

Soon after, she landed her second role in the 1973 romantic comedy "A Touch of Class."

She entered politics in 1992 and, when the party was in opposition, she was elected as a Labour MP. She served as a member of parliament for 23 years, during which time Tony Blair, the former prime minister, led her party to a resounding victory.
