Tuesday, Angelina Jolie filed a cross-complaint against her ex-husband Brad Pitt, providing additional information regarding what she had previously referred to in court documents as his abusive behavior aboard a private plane in 2016 that resulted in the breakdown of their marriage.

Lawyers for Ms. Jolie claimed that Mr. Pitt's demand that she sign a nondisclosure agreement that would have prevented her from discussing Pitt's physical and emotional abuse of her and their children outside of court caused negotiations to sell her share of the company to fail. The dispute arose from a winery the well-known Hollywood actors once co-owned.

She goes on to detail a protracted verbal and physical outburst that occurred in September 2016 during a flight from France to California that Mr. Pitt, Ms. Jolie, and their six children were taking. The filing claims that Pitt "grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her," "choked one of the children and struck another in the face," and "poured beer on Jolie; at another, he poured beer and red wine on the children." Federal authorities, who have authority over air travel, looked into the incident but decided against filing any charges. A few days following her flight, Ms. Jolie filed for divorce.

On Tuesday, I called and emailed Mr. Pitt's attorneys several times, but they never responded. Unidentified individuals close to Mr. Pitt were cited in 2016 in a number of media as indicating that he had not been violent toward his kids.

The separation of Ms. Jolie and Mr. Pitt has dragged on for years as a result of a legal dispute over their children's custody and, more recently, a legal action brought by Mr. Pitt regarding the Château Miraval winery in France that the pair purchased more than ten years ago. This year, Mr. Pitt sued his ex-wife, alleging that she sold her share of the business to a Stoli Group subsidiary without his consent, infringing on his "contractual rights."

According to Ms. Jolie's cross-complaint, negotiations stalled due to his desire for a nondisclosure agreement. Only then did she sell her stake to someone else. The F.B.I. agent who looked into claims that Mr. Pitt physically abused Ms. Jolie and their children on the plane in 2016 came to the conclusion that "the government has probable cause to charge Pitt with a federal felony for violating

This past August, according to a report in Puck News, Ms. Jolie had been requesting data about the F.B.I.'s case as an anonymous plaintiff in a Freedom of Information Act petition.

It's unclear if Mr. Pitt was accused of strangling or striking any of the kids in the extensively redacted F.B.I. investigation.

On the set of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," a 2005 action film in which they starred as married assassins, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt got to know one another. They acquired a majority stake in Château Miraval in 2008 and later got married there after seeing the property as both a family home and a business.

Six children, presently ranging in age from 14 to 21, were born to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

The rosé-famous French winery is the subject of a court dispute between the divorcing couple.

Mr. Pitt filed a lawsuit against Ms. Jolie and her former business in February, claiming that she had betrayed his "contractual expectations" by selling her stake in the wine company to Tenute del Mondo, a Stoli Group affiliate. The ex-couple agreed, according to his lawsuit, that neither would sell its portion of the winery without the other's approval.

Pitt's claim contended that "Jolie sought and ultimately completed the alleged sale in secret, purposefully keeping Pitt in the dark, and intentionally violating Pitt's contractual rights."

The Stoli Group, which now owns Ms. Jolie's old business, countersued Mr. Pitt last month to refute his version of events and his assertion that the sale amounted to a "hostile takeover."

When Ms. Jolie filed her own countersuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, she claimed that one of the reasons she decided to sell her stake in the wine company was because she was becoming uneasy about working with Mr. Pitt because of his "acknowledged problem of alcohol consumption." After Ms. Jolie requested a divorce, Mr. Pitt stated to The Times in 2019 that he committed to sobriety and spent time in AA.

In her filing, she claimed that there was no written or verbal agreement similar to the one Mr. Pitt described and that, in fact, Mr. Pitt had opposed the notion that a contingency plan was necessary in the event the relationship ended.Mr. Pitt and Ms. Jolie provided different accounts of how negotiations surrounding his purchase of her share of the wine company broke down in their respective lawsuits.

In response to a judge's decision against her in the custody dispute, Ms. Jolie allegedly walked out of the tentative agreement last year, causing her to contact Stoli Group, according to Mr. Pitt's lawsuit.

However, according to Ms. Jolie's countersuit, Mr. Pitt was the one to back out of the contract after she refused to accept his nondisparagement clause, forcing her to find an other bidder.
