According to the Crown Prosecution Service in the United Kingdom, actor Kevin Spacey is charged with four counts of sexual assault."The CPS has authorized criminal charges against Kevin Spacey, 62, for four counts of sexual assault against three men," said Rosemary Ainslie, the head of the CPS Special Crime Division, in a statement announcing the charges on Thursday.She went on to say: "He's also accused of forcing someone to engage in penetrative sexual conduct against their will. The charges are the result of an assessment of the evidence acquired during the investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service."
In London in March 2005, the first complainant claims Spacey sexually abused him twice. A third victim said Spacey sexually assaulted him in Gloucestershire in April 2013, while a second claimed Spacey raped him in August 2008.The fourth charge of inducing someone to engage in penetrative sexual conduct without consent was allegedly made in London in August 2008 against the same person who had accused Spacey of sexual assault the previous month.
According to The Washington Post, while the charges are authorized, they will not be carried out unless he is captured in England or Wales.
Beginning in October 2017, sexual assault and misconduct allegations substantially ruined Spacey's acting career. Spacey was accused by actor Anthony Rapp of making sexual overtures toward him while he was still underage at a party in the 1980s.
In a statement at the time, the two-time Oscar winner said, "Anthony Rapp is an actor for whom I have great admiration and respect. This narrative has absolutely terrified me. I honestly don't recall the interaction because it took place over 30 years ago. But, if I did behave as he recounts at the time, I offer him my greatest apologies for what would have been highly inappropriate intoxicated behavior."In his apologies to Rapp, the actor also received flak for coming out as gay.
Spacey was accused of misbehavior by a number of others in the weeks that followed. Due to the claims, he was sacked from his starring position in Netflix's "House of Cards," for which he received a Golden Globe.
During his time as creative director of the Old Vic Theatre in London, from 1995 to 2013, Spacey was accused of wrongdoing by at least 20 people. Following the November 2017 allegations elsewhere, the allegations were made in an anonymous probe by an outside legal firm.
Kevin Spacey is no longer facing a sex assault charge in Massachusetts.
The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office looked into two sexual assault complaints against Spacey in April 2018, but decided not to bring charges seven months later owing to the statute of limitations.
Spacey was charged with indecent assault in December 2018 in connection with an alleged incident with a juvenile on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, in the summer of 2016.
In July 2019, the case was thrown out in the middle of a trial after the accuser asserted his Fifth Amendment rights halfway through his testimony, and the evidence was struck from the record.
