In the disputed regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, the commander of the Ukrainian Land Forces claimed his army had scored two minor wins against Russian forces.
Oleksandr Syrskyi, the commander, reported that Ukrainian forces had moved 400 meters (1,300 feet) closer to the town of Svatove in the Luhansk region on an official army website. The location of Svatove along major Russian supply routes makes any potential recapture of the town strategically significant.
Hostilities in northern Donetsk and a few locations in Luhansk "continue almost around the clock," Syrskyi claimed, despite the fact that the front line has been stationary for months.
According to Syrskyi, Russia has begun a number of new offensives in the Luhansk region and the northern portion of the Donetsk region, partially employing ex-prisoners who have received special training for assault operations.
Despite the numerical advantage that Russian army reinforcements have provided their forces, Syrskyi argued that Ukraine's greater agility provides Kyiv the upper hand on the battlefield.
"Not even numerical superiority helps the enemy," he declared.
The Donbas region of Ukraine is made up of the cities of Luhansk and Donetsk, which was a hub of industry before Russian-backed separatists took control of two areas and proclaimed breakaway republics in 2014.
Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, recognized the two separatist territories as separate republics prior to the full-scale invasion in February 2022, authorizing the deployment of Russian forces there in violation of international law.
