Taylor Swift has announced the unexpected release of "This Love (Taylor's Version)," from her Grammy-winning 2014 album "1989," on Friday at midnight.

The singer made the news after the teaser for "The Summer I Turned Pretty," an upcoming Amazon drama based on Jenny Han's book series of the same name. "This Love (Taylor's Version)" appears in the trailer.

"Thank you @jennyhan for premiering my cover of This Love in the trailer for @thesummeriturnedpretty!!" On Thursday, Swift posted on Instagram. "This song has always made me so happy"

Swift has been re-recording her first five albums – "Taylor Swift," "Fearless" (re-released in April 2021), "Speak Now," "Red" (re-released in November 2021), and "1989" – in order to reclaim ownership of her catalog after music entrepreneur Scooter Braun purchased and sold her master recordings.

Is this single a hint that "1989" will be her next re-released album? For almost a year, fans have been wondering if "1989 (Taylor's Version)" is on the way, but Swift has yet to confirm any plans for a new album. So far, we've learned the following. She has released new "1989" clothing, which can be purchased on her website right now. Is this a forewarning?

Perhaps — but not necessarily. Swift also has stuff for her 2010 album "Speak Now," which has yet to be re-recorded.

Still, this isn't the first time that merchandise for "1989" has inspired album rumors. Swift created a line of goods last summer called "Just a Summer Thing," which was the same sky-blue color as the album and said "EST. 1989" — the album's title as well as Swift's birth year. Fans were almost certain "1989 (Taylor's Version)" would be released shortly, only for Swift to release "Red (Taylor's Version)" in November 2021 instead.

In September, Taylor released the track 'Wildest Dreams (Taylor's Version).'

Swift surprised fans in September 2021 with the surprise release of "Wildest Dreams (Taylor's Version)," a song from "1989," following her announcement that "Red" will be her next re-recorded album.

Before releasing any singles from "Red (Taylor's Version)," she released this song.

Swift posted a TikTok video revealing the re-recording with, "Someone claimed slow zoom makes you look like the main character, so make it Taylor's Version pls."

She also took use of a TikTok trend to promote the song, inviting fans to utilize the song's audio in their videos.

"Here she is for the slow zoom trend if you guys want to use my rendition of wildest desires!" reads the video's text.

The film "Wildest Dreams" has not yet faded from our collective consciousness. Fans of "Bridgerton" will recall that an instrumental version of "Wildest Dreams" was featured in the first season of the show, which premiered in December 2020.

It simply goes to show that when it comes to Swift, you should always expect the unexpected.
