Mary Trump, an ex-presidential niece, made MSNBC anchor Michael Steele laugh by texting something she would not have said aloud: the only way former President Donald Trump will go gently into that good night.
This week's episode of the Michael Steele Podcast included Mary Trump, presenter of The Mary Trump Show and outspoken Trump detractor, who spent an hour psychoanalyzing the United States. But in one intriguing passage, Mary confided to Steele that her uncle would "go quietly" in "only one way," and she didn't want to speak it aloud.
Then, viewers could see her type something in chat that made Steele laugh, and she would go on without saying what she had said:
STEELE, Michael So. Let's complete the circle by putting what we've learnt to use in our politics throughout the forthcoming election season. And, as you may be aware, Donald Trump has his own problems. He'll take care of that. And I believe that most people will not be concerned by it because, you know, I've spoken to both Republicans and Democrats. You know, Donald Trump might not be the most qualified candidate. I remarked that it's probably not in the party's best interest. Do you believe that this man will sleep soundly tonight? Do you actually believe that occurs, by the way?
MARY TRUMP: There is just one possible outcome, and I won't say it aloud.
Michael Steele: That's right. So let's have a look. Having a basic idea of what motivated much of this now. When considering this forthcoming presidential cycle, what is motivating people in many ways is the fact that between 2016 and 20 there was not a loss for Trumpism or the MAGA method, increased by seven plus million more voters. You have previously highlighted this.
Yes, MARY TRUMP. (types)
STEELE, Michael Considering this from the viewpoint of a clinical psychologist.
(Scans the screen) HA-HO!
How would you rate our upcoming behavior? In other words, how do voters initially perceive things when they are exposed to the rigors of democracy? We are not a true democracy, as you stated earlier. Some have argued for that. How do people think about that? Do they actually understand the differences between being a republic and a fully fledged democracy?
MARY TRUMP: Okay, I'll just jump in for a moment.
Michael Steele said, "Do what you do."
MARY TRUMP: I believe it's critical to draw this distinction. Republicans are lying to you when they claim that the United States is a constitutional republic rather than a democracy, in my opinion. It's true that constitutional republics are a form of democracy. America isn't a democracy, I say. Simply put, I'm saying that despite having large populations throughout its history, America has never fulfilled its full potential. Women were the only group at first, followed by Black people and women. And both then and now, it's because of gerrymandering, voting intimidation, and voter dissent. In some instances, there is just one vote for a particular group of people. And this report is to blame. Not because America isn't a democracy on paper.
Steele or Mary might share with the class as a whole.
