Taylor Swift has accomplished a lot in her life, and she can now add a PhD to the list.
The singer was honored with a Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa, at a convocation ceremony for New York University on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium. Hundreds of students from the Classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022 will graduate from NYU this year.
Cody Simpson, a former singer, is now a competitive swimmer.
Despite the fact that Taylor was never a student at NYC, the doctorate is an honorary degree awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to society or who have achieved lifelong achievements in their area.Taylor made a 20-minute acceptance speech, according to PEOPLE Magazine, in which she highlighted many personal antidotes (and song references).
"To all the parents, family members, mentors, instructors, allies, friends, and loved ones who have stood with these youngsters today… "Now, let me explain something to you," the musician said. "Thank you for visiting New York. It had been anticipating your arrival."
Taylor admitted that she never went to college since, by the time she was in her late teens, she was already a household figure in the music industry. She claimed, however, that her unusual upbringing taught her a lot.
"I grew up being told that if I didn't make any mistakes, all of America's children would grow up to be beautiful angels," she said. "However, if I do make a mistake, the entire world will fall off its axis, and it will be all my responsibility, and I will spend the rest of my life in pop star prison."Later in the speech, Taylor talked about how he was a controversial character in the media and how he was almost fired.
"Having the rest of the world regard my love life like a spectator sport in which I lose every single game was not a wonderful way to date in my teens and twenties," she said, describing the experience as "humiliating." "However, it taught me to zealously guard my personal space."
"Getting canceled on the internet and almost losing my job gave me tremendous understanding of all the different sorts of wine," Taylor continued.Taylor used to be more open about her love life, but since dating actor Joe Alwyn in 2017, she has become notoriously private. Joe recently addressed engagement rumors in a new interview, but the couple rarely speak on their relationship status.
Taylor advised the grads to trust their "gut feelings" as a parting piece of advice. She continued, "Everyone, including me, makes mistakes." "We shall face difficulties." We'll bounce back. We'll take that as a lesson. As a result, we'll become more resilient," Taylor said.
