Serena Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam winner, last competed in professional tennis nearly a year ago at Wimbledon, when she was forced to quit due to a leg injury. Many questioned whether it would be the last time we saw the renowned player compete at the age of 40. However, it now looks that this may not be the case, as Williams has stated that she will compete at Wimbledon later this month, referring to the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London's SW19 neighborhood.Williams received one of Wimbledon's wild card berths, according to the official Wimbledon Twitter account.Williams (seen above at last year's Wimbledon competition) hasn't won a Grand Slam trophy in a long time. Her most recent Grand Slam victory came at the 2017 Australian Open. The announcement of her return has piqued the interest of many in the sports world, with many wondering whether she has a chance to win after a year away from the sport. If Serena were to win her forthcoming tournament by a miracle, it would be a tennis record-breaking performance. She would become the oldest player to win a Grand Slam title in either men's or women's tennis.

Williams' return to Wimbledon, regardless of how she performs in the event, will undoubtedly be a watershed moment for tennis. On June 27, the tournament will begin.
