According to Ukrainian and Turkish officials, the first grain tanker under a UN-mediated agreement to guarantee safe passage in the Black Sea departed on Monday morning.

Oleksandr Kubrakov, the minister of infrastructure for Ukraine, tweeted that "the first [Ukrainian] grain ship since #RussianAggression has left port," praising Turkey and the UN for their assistance in carrying out the agreement.

On the satellite vessel tracker MarineTraffic, the ship Razoni, flying the flag of Sierra Leone and carrying more than 26,000 metric tons of grain, is also seen as being in motion.

The ministry stated that additional ships will also be sent out in accordance with the agreement that was agreed on July 22 in Istanbul, but it made no further mention of this.

5 million metric tons of grain are anticipated to leave Ukraine each month as a result of the grain deal, easing the world food crisis brought on by Russia's blockade of Ukrainian ports.

In order to reach international markets, the ships will go through a secure passageway in the Black Sea and through the Bosporus Strait.
