"Grey's Anatomy" could go on without Ellen Pompeo, according to Entertainment Tonight.
"We'll try to keep it going for the kids," she said.
Pompeo previously told Insider that she respects fans' feelings for characters other than Meredith.

Ellen Pompeo recently told Entertainment Tonight that she could foresee a version of ABC's blockbuster medical drama without her.

"Listen, the show appeals to a wide audience, and young people really enjoy it. So many generations of healthcare workers have been inspired by it ""I've been playing general surgeon Dr. Meredith Grey for 18 seasons and counting," the actor remarked.

"So, I think it's a really fantastic piece of content for the young people," Pompeo continued. "Not with me, but keep it going beyond me."

Pompeo, who was celebrating the show's 400th episode, described the experience as "exhausting."For some time now, the "Tell Me With Ellen Pompeo" podcast presenter has been "trying to focus on convincing everybody that it should end," she told Insider in November while promoting her brand Betr Remedies."I keep thinking to myself, 'But what's the tale, what story are we going to tell?'" She went on to say something else. ""Who cares, Ellen?" everyone says. It is really profitable.'"

It's understandable that "Grey's Anatomy" would be difficult to imagine without Pompeo, whose role is named after her. However, since its debut in March 2005, the program has spawned two spinoffs ("Private Practice," which ended in 2013, and "Station 19," which is still airing on ABC), so the Grey Sloan universe might continue without Meredith.

In November, Pompeo told Insider that she appreciates how viewers care for characters other than Meredith, such as Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and April Kepner (Sarah Drew), who are both returning to "Grey's Anatomy" for the show's 400th episode."Any suggestion is always welcome. I'm aware that 'Japril' is popular "When asked about the possibility of a spinoff, she responded, referring to the couple by their moniker. "I love watching Sarah Drew and Jesse, but whatever Jesse and Sarah choose to do, if they want to do it, I would be overjoyed for the viewers."The 18th season of "Grey's Anatomy" debuted on September 30.
Dr. Addison Montgomery, played by Kate Walsh, is back.
This season also has a cameo by Peter Gallagher.

For more stories, visit the Insider homepage."If it's a matter of fan love, we would already be in episode eight" of a spinoff, Williams told Insider in a joint interview with Drew in December.

Fans can only "keep plugging away and yelling about it" at this point, he said.

On Thursday at 8 p.m. ET, ABC broadcasts the 400th episode of "Grey's Anatomy," as well as the season 18 finale.
