NEW YORK — Even Sir Paul's boss bends down to him.During Paul McCartney's set at MetLife Stadium on Thursday, Bruce Springsteen joined him, providing an added layer of "wow" to a show already packed with it.

On Saturday, McCartney will turn 80, but he put on a show that guys half his age would envy. He said late in the show that he would be joined by a "local guy."

The audience started yelling, "Bruuuce!"

As the "Bruce" chant grew louder, McCartney introduced the New Jersey star.

Springsteen wished Paul a happy birthday. "Here's to another 80 years of glory."

The crowd erupted in applause as Springsteen, McCartney, and the band launched into the Boss' classic hit of the same name.

After that, McCartney asked Springsteen to do one more song, and he sang lead on "I Wanna Be Your Man," a Beatles hit sung by Ringo Starr and a Rolling Stones hit.

Springsteen wasn't the only one from New Jersey in attendance. During the encore, Jon Bon Jovi walked out to lead the crowd in singing "Happy Birthday" to the ageless icon. It had been spontaneously performed earlier in the night, at a show full of incredible music.

The stadium where the New York Jets and Giants play was crowded with fans eager to watch one of music's all-time greats perform "some old ones, some new ones, and some in-between ones."He kicked things off with an oldie, "Can't Buy Me Love," and had the audience in the palm of his hand right away. During Beatles songs, McCartney said, he sees all the lights from hundreds of phones taking video, however when he performs contemporary songs, "it's like a black hole."

McCartney's first tour in 2019 was a success. COVID forced the cancellation of European dates planned for 2020. The "Got Back" tour kicked off on April 28 in Spokane, Washington, before heading to the East Coast and the Meadowlands.

McCartney is slated to play on June 25 at the Glastonbury Festival in England, which was one of his 2020 performances that was canceled.

McCartney's rendition of George Harrison's Beatles hit "Something" on the ukulele, which is Harrison's favorite instrument, has become a hallmark of McCartney tours, resonating again on Thursday.

However, McCartney's duet with John Lennon on "I've Got a Feeling" was a new feature for 2022. When it came time for Lennon to deliver his "everyone had a hard year" portion, the screen showed footage of Lennon singing it at the Beatles' 1969 rooftop concert.

Director Peter Jackson isolated Lennon's 1969 performance for the 2021 "Get Back" documentary, and it was a major hit on Thursday, with a scream of ovation as the late Beatle's voice and image came in.

McCartney performed for well than two and a half hours, a remarkable feat of endurance for a man approaching his octogenarian years.

On a night full of highlights, McCartney ended with a medley of "Golden Slumbers," "Carry That Weight," and "The End" from the "Abbey Road" album.

After that, he made a vow.

"There's only one thing left to say," he concluded. "We'll catch up with you next time!"
