Before his Oscars incident, Will Smith spoke with David Letterman about "suffering."
Smith, 53, talked on his affinity to his King Richard part — specifically, relying on experiences with his own late father — in an interview for the former Late Show host's Netflix series My Next Guest Needs No Introduction recorded before the Academy Awards.
"My experiences and my life, and the writing of this book have unlocked a part of me, as an actor, that is like nothing I've ever experienced," he told Letterman, 75, in the season 4 episode published on Friday.
"Life is so exciting to me right now because I can reach people in ways I've never been able to reach people," Smith added. "I'm ready to plunge deep into my heart in a way that I believe will be both rewarding for me and beneficial to the human family."For slapping Chris Rock onstage during the March ceremony after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head, Smith was barred from future ceremonies and related events for a decade by the Academy.
"You can't defend your family – that's not genuine," he remarked in another Letterman special segment. Smith made the remark while talking about life-changing realizations.
"Safety and protection are only a mirage. You must learn to accept the fact that anything might vanish in a split second at any time "Smith went on to say something else. "So, how come you're here with that reality? And how can you be happy and be present at the same time?"
"This episode was recorded prior to the 2022 Academy Awards ceremony," reads the first line of the Letterman show. Billie Eilish, Cardi B, Ryan Reynolds, Kevin Durant, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are among the other stars that will appear on his show this season.
