The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that authorities arrested and indicted Atlanta rapper Young Thug at his home on Monday, accusing him of gang involvement and conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
Young Thug's true name is Jeffery Williams, and he is accused of co-founding the Young Slime Life criminal street gang in Atlanta in 2012, which has ties to the interstate Bloods group. According to The New York Times, the indictment accuses the YSL gang of witness intimidation, murder, attempted murder, carjacking, robbery, theft, and drug peddling.
The 88-page indictment mentions Dwayne Carter, better known by his stage name Lil Wayne. According to The New York Times, YSL member Jimmy Winfrey allegedly fired a shot at the New Orleans rapper's tour bus in April 2015.
Williams and Carter had a public feud in the past. Despite this, the two guys were recently sighted recording together in the studio over the weekend, according to Complex.
Young Thug's lawyer, Brian Steel, stated after the rapper was arrested that he had "done no crime whatsoever" and that "we will fight to the last drop of blood to clear him," according to The Guardian.According to The Guardian, Georgia passed the RICO Act to combat gangs and criminal enterprises.The indictment also named Williams and 27 other YSL associates, including rap artist Gunna (actual name Sergio Kitchens). Gunna has been charged with one count of violating the RICO Act, but has yet to be detained. In January, Kitchens released DS4Ever, a new album.Yak Gotti, who is accused with four others of killing Donovan Thomas Jr., is among the YSL rappers identified in the paper.
Three other YSL members are accused of stabbing rapper YFN Lucci in jail after he was charged with murder. According to XXL, the indictment also claims that Williams' associates had to have Williams' approval to attempt to kill YFN Lucci while he was in jail.
Williams is also charged with threatening to kill a man at a shopping center and renting a car to aid in the murder of Thomas Jr., according to the indictment. Williams is also charged with having methamphetamine in his possession with the intent to sell it. According to The Guardian, the rapper has not been charged formally with the crimes.
