The thriller 'Mother Land' will include Halle Berry.
The 55-year-old actress has joined the cast of Lionsgate's next film, which will debut internationally next week at the Cannes Film Festival.
The picture will be directed by Alexandre Aja, who has previously worked on 'The Hills Have Eyes' and 'Piranha 3D.'The film will follow a mother and her twin sons who have been tormented for years by an evil spirit. The family's holy tie is disrupted when one of the boys questions whether it is real, and they are forced to struggle for survival.
For 21 Laps, Aja will produce alongside Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Dan Levine. The script was written by Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby, with Halle and Holly Jeter serving as executive producers.
Erin Westerman, Lionsgate's Production President, said: "We're ecstatic to be working with Halle and Alex again. Halle is a film powerhouse, and she's the ideal actress to communicate the mother's psychological terror as she tries to defend her family.
"And who better to raise the stakes than Alex? 21 Laps, a powerhouse production company, will provide an upgraded thriller that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats."
Last year, Halle made her directorial debut with the film 'Bruised,' in which she also appeared, and she indicated that she "absolutely" wants to direct another film.
The Oscar winner stated: "I'm going to get back in front of the camera. I can't say for sure what I'm doing right now, but I know I want to do it again.
"And I'm not going to act in it this time. It's big enough to direct."
