Trump’s shifting justifications following the Mar-a-Lago raid parallel how he kept revising his account of January 6, according to Adam Kinzinger.

Donald Trump's assertions regarding the FBI search of his home, according to Rep. Adam Kinzinger, are "changing."
He compared it to Trump's shifting denials regarding the disturbance on January 6 as new information came to light.

Adam Kinzinger asserted that Trump's shifting statements regarding the FBI search of his Mar-a-Lago property are consistent with how his story of the Capitol riot on January 6 changed over time and demonstrate his unreliability.

Kinzinger discussed the August 8 FBI search of Trump's Florida club, which set off a political ruckus, in an interview on CNN's "Situation Room" on Monday.

One of the two Republicans on the House Jan. 6 committee is Kinzinger, who has long been a vociferous opponent of Trump.

Trump first asserted that the FBI may have even planted evidence and that the search of Mar-a-Lago was politically motivated.

However, his position changed and his principal justification was that he had previously declassified the records after the Justice Department on Friday released the search warrant, disclosing that authorities suspect he may have broken the Espionage Act.During the interview, anchor Wolf Blitzer questioned Kinzinger on the justifications Trump had provided for why classified documents had been discovered during the search, and Kinzinger made a connection between that and Trump's strategy for January 6.

"The explanations ranged from Donald Trump believing that certain information had been planted to all of a sudden claiming that he had simply mentally declassified this information to saying, well, people take work home all the time, I mean, just like anything, just like January 6, when it began as an Antifa operation, then it was the FBI, then it was merely a group of tourists, and then it was a group of people who had been misunderstood."The conclusion of Kinzinger was that "there is always a developing explanation, but that evolving explanation is always a lie, and it points to the fact that Donald Trump knew what he was doing." "I am therefore unaware of the raid's specifics. But it appears that Donald Trump's justification is untrue."

Trump's voluntary handover of a cache of 15 boxes of records earlier in 2022 involves the Justice Department and National Archive.

However, reports claim that after learning that Trump had withheld some documents, officials decided to act more rashly.

The Jan. 6 committee is looking into whether Trump may have broken the law by making unfounded assertions that the 2020 election was rigged against him.
They have vehemently maintained that Trump is personally accountable for the violence that day in Washington, DC, from his followers who attacked the US Capitol.
