The handling of sensitive federal materials by Trump is under investigation by the Justice Department.
Sen. Lindsey Graham predicted on Sunday that riots would break out if Trump was put on trial.
Graham claimed that when it comes to Trump, federal law enforcement has a "double standard."

According to Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, riots would break out if former President Donald Trump is charged with handling secret information.

On "Sunday Night in America" with Fox News, Graham made the remark. The South Carolina senator cited recent remarks by Mark Zuckerberg on Meta's handling of a report about Hunter Biden's laptop following an FBI warning to support his claim that there is a "double standard" when it comes to federal law enforcement in his assertion."Republicans in general, including myself, think there is no law when it comes to Trump. Graham continued, "It's all about getting him. And I'll say this: If Donald Trump is prosecuted for handling sensitive information after the Clinton scandal, there will be rioting in the streets."

A bit later in the conversation, Graham reiterated his first statement. There would be riots in the streets, he said, if President Trump were to be charged with handling confidential information after Hillary Clinton installed a server in her basement. "I am concerned about the nation."Graham seems to be alluding to Hillary Clinton's use of a personal email while she was secretary of state rather than a more secure official one. Clinton was the subject of numerous inquiries, including ones from the FBI and the State Department. The handling of classified material was deemed to have "evidence of potential" criminal offenses in July 2016, however there wasn't enough of a basis for charges to be filed. Although there was "no convincing evidence of systemic, willful mishandling of sensitive material," the State Department investigation that spanned years concluded in 2019 that Clinton's use of a private email server put classified information at risk.

According to information that has been made publicly available, Clinton cooperated with the investigations by handing up her devices and emails. She was never subject to any charges.

On his Truth Social platform, Trump for his part highlighted Graham's appearance on Fox News in a menacing re-post. Since the publication of the largely redacted affidavit outlining the Mar-a-Lago raid, Trump has also continued to rail against the search, accusing the DOJ and FBI of being dishonest, and complaining that the affidavit was heavily blacked to protect the sources and procedures of the FBI.

On August 8, the FBI conducted a search of Mar-a-Lago as part of a Justice Department investigation into possible legal transgressions involving the handling of federal documents. According to court documents, the Justice Department claimed that when Trump left office, he took sensitive and confidential materials with him to Mar-a-Lago.

Trump said he had declassified the materials while while denying any misconduct.
