Authorities are searching the Atlantic for a submarine that provides underwater tours of the sunken Titanic after it vanished during a recent excursion.
The deep-sea vessel disappeared over the weekend, and the U.S. Coast Guard started a full-scale search and rescue effort on Monday. According to reports, there were 4 crew members and 1 tourist inside the sub.

It's unclear exactly where the submarine lost contact with its home station, but accounts indicate that it was starting a 12,500-foot drop into the water to get a closer look at the Titanic disaster off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. According to his family, Hamish Harding, a well-known (and wealthy) British adventurer, is the only other person traveling with the crew.
Hamish HardinHarding, who once paid top price for a ride in Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rocket, took a triumphant selfie on Sunday, emphasizing the fact that he'd be the last person to see the Titanic in '23. This was intended to be the last trip for the year for OceanGate Expeditions, the company that owns and runs this submarine. Voyages were really scheduled to resume in 2024.
According to OceanGate, who also claimed that their squad hadn't yet arrived home from the expedition, this submarine is theirs. Tickets for these excursions of the Titanic, which are offered by a private firm, can cost up to $250,000.

These OceanGate Titanic tours often span 8 days overall, with each dive lasting up to 10 hours. However, in this instance, it appears that all communication has been lost, according to OceanGate, who frequently uses satellite technology to stay in touch with their subs.
According to the business, they are currently concentrating "on the crewmembers in the submersible and their families." They continue, "We are exploring and mobilizing all options to bring the crew back safely." It appears that no traces of life have been discovered thus far in the hunt.
