An odd photo of Pope Francis went viral online over the weekend. The image, which has gone viral on social media, depicts the 86-year-old pontiff wearing a thick, longline white puffer coat that is belted at the waist and appears to be layered with additional cold-weather gear.

It seemed to be a significant departure from the traditional regalia worn in the papal residence, which typically includes robes, stoles, and tall, pointed miter caps. The outfit sparked a flood of ironic questions online: Did the Pope get a new stylist? Has he always had a stylist? Was the appearance influenced by Rihanna's Super Bowl supporting dancers?
But social media users primarily cried out that they couldn't believe the picture was real. It wasn't, though.

Since then, Twitter has included a contextual footnote to a few of the top-performing tweets stating that they're actually AI generated photos and were made using the program Midjourney.
The image went viral, and a 31-year-old Chicago-area construction worker has now claimed ownership of it.
