According to recent research, the majority of Americans, regardless of party affiliation, are dissatisfied with the state of the country.
According to an AP-NORC study issued on Wednesday, 85% of US citizens believe that the country is headed in the wrong direction, with only 14% holding this belief. That represents a more negative reading than in May, when 21 percent of respondents said that things were generally moving in the right direction and 78 percent said that things were headed in the wrong direction.
Right now, 78 percent of Democrats and 92 percent of Republicans are unhappy with the direction the nation is taking; this is the largest percentage of Democrats since President Joe Biden took office last year.
According to an AP-NORC poll, only 20% of Americans think the economy is doing well, with 79% saying it is doing poorly. Similar to the last attitude, 67 percent of Democrats and 90 percent of Republicans agree that the economy is in poor shape. In the days following the US Supreme Court's decision that there was no longer a federal constitutional right to an abortion, a Reuters/Ipsos poll, which was also issued on Wednesday, showed mounting anger, particularly among Democrats. According to that poll, 62 percent of Democrats—up from 49 percent the week before—believe that the country is headed in the wrong direction. In contrast, 86 percent of Republicans, a modest decrease from 94 percent a week earlier, believe that things are headed in the wrong direction.
Meanwhile, Americans' perceptions of Biden are still negative. According to a CNN Poll of Polls average of polls conducted in the second half of June, Americans have a 38 percent approval rating for the job he's doing and a 57 percent disapproval rating, which is consistent with his results from earlier in the month.
In the AP-NORC poll, 28% of US adults approve of Biden's job performance on the economy, which is his lowest rating on the subject to date in that poll. 36% also approve of how he has handled the coronavirus outbreak, while 53% disapprove.
The CNN Poll of Polls is an average of the five most recent adult, nationwide, nonpartisan polls that adhere to CNN's standards and ask about Biden's job approval. Only the most recent poll from a pollster when several were released during that time period are included in the average. The poll of polls combines the findings of the surveys done by Quinnipiac University on June 17–20, CBS News/YouGov on June 22–24, NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist on June 24–25, AP-NORC on June 23–27, and Reuters/Ipsos on June 27–28.
