To thrive, whether you're an entry-level employee or a CEO, you'll almost certainly need to be familiar with the internet and mobile technology. Artificial intelligence is next, according to Mark Cuban. On a recent episode of "The Colin Cowherd Podcast," presented by Fox Sports anchor Colin Cowherd, the millionaire – whose first business was a computer consulting firm – stated that artificial intelligence is already taking over the commercial world. He predicts that it will soon be as important to enterprises as personal laptops and cellphones."There are two types of businesses: those that excel at AI and those that don't," Cuban explained. "To start a business, you don't have to be an expert in AI, but you will need to grasp it at some point. It's the same as when personal computers were first introduced. It was not necessary to be proficient with computers, but it was advantageous. Then there were networks, the internet, and finally mobile phones."
Cuban's remarks reflected his assertion at the 2017 SXSW Conference in Austin, Texas, that the world's first trillionaire would be an AI entrepreneur. He's also pledged millions of dollars to the Mark Cuban Foundation's Intro to AI Bootcamps program, which he launched in 2019 to teach young people about artificial intelligence for free.
The bootcamps initiative intends to enhance AI literacy among impoverished high school kids, at least in part to keep the country competitive. On Twitter last year, Cuban remarked that five of the world's largest corporations – Alphabet, Apple, Amazon, Facebook, and Microsoft – all place a high value on AI.
"The companies who have best utilized AI are dominating," Cuban wrote. "It's the cornerstone of my current stock investing strategy."
Look no further than TikTok, remarked Cuban on the podcast, if you want to see an effective AI in action. According to him, the platform's mastery of artificial intelligence is why so many users are hooked, including Cuban and his children.
"It's entirely artificial intelligence," Cuban remarked of TikTok's genius. "[It] employs artificial intelligence to present the information you seek."
Cuban, who also owns the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA, believes TikTok-like platforms can save industries by personalizing content to individual users' interests and attention spans.
"If my kid and I like Luka Doncic's dunks, NBA stuff, and dogs," Cuban remarked, "[we'll] get a stream of that." "We're not going to get our 16-year-old, 12-year-old, or 15-year-old to sit through an entire game," he says.
