Mitch McConnell, the Senate Minority Leader, called Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul a "isolationist."
Last week, Paul was successful in delaying the ratification of a $40 billion aid package to aid Ukraine in its fight against Russia's invasion. The bill was finally passed by the Senate on Thursday.
Bret Baier, host of Fox News' Special Report on Thursday, presented a tape of Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) criticizing "MAGA Republicans" for being "soft on Putin.""The MAGA impact on the Republican Party is growing far too huge and dominating," Schumer remarked.
Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Rand Paul both oppose the bill, according to Baier. The $40 billion in aid, according to Paul, should be in the form of a loan.
"What are your feelings on it?" McConnell, Baier inquired.
He responded, "Yes, what Schumer said is political bullshit." "Senator Paul has always been an isolationist. He's proud of it and feels America should be there. That represents a very small portion of the Senate Republican conference. The package received only 11 votes against it. I believe that opposition to Finland and Sweden joining NATO will be considerably lower."
"There's always been a streak of isolationism in our party," McConnell said, "but it's nowhere near the prevailing opinion represented in today's vote."
Since World War II, the term "isolationist" has been used negatively. Isolationist philosophy, according to one common story, is to blame for the United States' tardy response to Germany's war on Europe, which began in 1939.
"And you think you can get two-thirds in the Senate for a treaty?" Baier inquired.
Yes, responded McConnell. "It'll require two-thirds, and I'm confident we'll go well beyond that."
