According to Israeli authorities, at least seven persons have been hurt as a result of gunmen opening fire at various sites throughout the city of Jerusalem.

At 01:24 local time (22:24 GMT), the terrorists opened fire in a parking lot next to the famed Western Wall. They then fired at a bus.

Police have started looking for the shooters after they ran away from the attacks.
According to a police spokesperson, the incident is being investigated as a possible terrorist strike.

Two patients were being treated by the ambulance service, Magen David Adom (MDA), and were in critical condition.

Six males and one woman who were the victims were transferred to hospitals in Jerusalem, MDA added.Although the number of shooters is still unknown, Hebrew media has stated that authorities are looking for at least two perpetrators.

Worshippers had been temporarily blocked from leaving the Western Wall compound, according to local media and video posted on social media that showed heavily armed police at the scene.

Police have "started securing the area, investigating the matter, and seeking for the culprits, who fled," according to a police spokesperson.

One of Judaism's holiest sites is the Western Wall, where tens of thousands of pilgrims come to pray each year.

The assaults came a week after 44 people were murdered in Israeli operations on Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip. Three days of ferocious fighting came to an end thanks to a ceasefire mediated by Egypt.
