While some parents favor being harsh, others favor being forgiving. How to strike the correct balance is a common concern.I spoke with 70 parents who raised extremely successful adults for my book, "Raising an Entrepreneur," to learn how they assisted their children in realizing their aspirations.

It was a racially, religiously, economically, familially, and educationally varied group. But when I spoke with them, I realized that "respectful parenting" was a recurrent thread.

Tolerant parenting, sometimes known as "smart parenting," entails enforcing high standards and rigid regulations (such as using only money earned) while still being respectful of children's decisions (e.g., letting them choose their own after school activities).

What does kind parenting entail?
When I inform others of the advantages of respectful parenting, many find it unexpected and illogical.

Why would a parent allow their young child to make decisions for themselves? It's far simpler to intervene before your child does anything foolish like disassembling a radio or dressing up as a Halloween character for school in January.

Respectful parents, however, appreciate individuality and don't try to control their children's interests or modes of expression.

Respectful parenting is about viewing children as independent, logical creatures, as opposed to common parenting techniques like "permissive," which overindulges children to avoid confrontation, or "authoritarian," where communication is one-way with little consideration of a child's emotional needs.

Famous psychologist Angela Duckworth concurs that this is the greatest method to nurture children in her book "Grit."

"Parents who respect their children are skilled evaluators of their psychological requirements. They understand that for children to develop to their greatest potential, they require love, boundaries, and space "She composes. "Rather than being based on power, their authority is based on knowledge and wisdom."

The three foundations of considerate parenting

1. Composition
Give youngsters the freedom to decide for themselves as long as expectations are satisfied.
Show them the improvements that can be made.

Even when it's difficult, anticipate them to follow through.
Thomas Vu was raised in a structured environment with many restrictions, yet his parents provided him complete freedom to follow his interests.

"I was anticipated to receive only As. Although it wasn't simple, my mother let me to play as many video games as I wanted as long as I did. That was a fair deal in my book "He informed me.

Vu was one quarter away from receiving his bioengineering degree from college when he was given the chance to intern at Electronic Arts, a renowned developer of video games.

Although his parents weren't happy, they allowed him to leave school and follow his ambition of making video games. Later, he rose to become League of Legends' lead producer at Riot Games, where the game currently boasts 180 million players.

2. Encouragement
Give children the freedom to express their own opinions.
Be mindful of their privacy.
Don't constantly correct their behavior or speech.
A successful IT investor is D.A. Wallach. Spotify, where he served as Artist-in-Residence, was one of his first investments.

When Wallach was eight years old, he developed an interest in investing. As a result, his mother gave him some cash and helped him start an account. He studied businesses for hours. He made the investment decisions after consulting his mother's advice.

Wallach lost the most of the money in less than six years, but his mother insisted that losing was a necessary part of learning.

Not everyone has the financial means to offer their child cash to learn about investment. But Wallach's mother developed his talents in other ways that didn't need spending money, such as by helping him analyze, discuss, and debate decisions, treating him like an adult, and not grieving over failure.

3. Warm
Let children know they can come to you for assistance.
Spend time with them in-depth.
Take part in acts of kindness together.
Breegan Interior designer Jane serves as the host of "Extreme Makeover" on HGTV. She is a member of the board of Single Moms Planet and is also a philanthropist.

Her parents instilled in her a sense of empathy and demonstrated how to overcome challenges with fortitude and ingenuity.

"When we first traveled to assist people through mission work, I was 11 years old. In a village in Mexico with little access to clean water, we distributed clothing to the locals "She informed me. "The poverty startled me."

Breegan understands how crucial it is to instill a sense of giving in children now that she is a mother. She routinely participates in food assistance programs with her two sons.

I now realize that most parents don't expose their children to upsetting truths, but mine did it by enveloping the suffering in such a strong sense of hope, the woman added. They consistently emphasized the good deeds and contributions we may make to the world.
