Pelosi described Duda as a "valuable partner in supporting the people of Ukraine in the face of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin's ruthless and unwarranted aggression" in a statement released after the meeting in the Polish capital on Monday.Pelosi went on to say that she and a group of US lawmakers who met with Duda "expressed America's heartfelt thanks to the Polish government and people for opening their hearts and homes to Ukrainian refugees, and we reaffirmed our nation's promise to continue supporting Poland's humanitarian efforts."
More than 5.5 million people, largely women and children, have fled Ukraine as a result of the conflict. By far the largest group — over 3 million migrants – has arrived in Poland, where many have stayed.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, has enraged Poland.Ukrainians have been welcomed into Polish households, and the government and volunteers have mobilized to assist in a variety of ways.

Meanwhile, Russia cut off gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria last week after the two European Union and NATO members refused to pay in roubles, a decision that Duda described as violating "fundamental legal standards."'Fight for liberty.'
Pelosi led a delegation of US legislators on an unannounced trip to Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, two days earlier, when they visited President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and reaffirmed Washington's unflinching support against Russia's incursion.According to a video of the meeting posted by the Ukrainian president's office, Pelosi told Zelenskyy, "Our pledge is to be there for you until the war is done."

"We are on the precipice of freedom, and your struggle is a struggle for all of us." Thank you for your dedication to the cause of liberty."Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin had previously visited Ukraine. Pelosi is the House Speaker and, behind Vice President Kamala Harris, the second in line for the presidency in the United States.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden's request for $33 billion in extra aid for Ukraine is anticipated to be taken up by the US Congress.More than $20 billion in guns, ammunition, and other military supplies, as well as $8.5 billion in direct economic assistance to the Ukrainian government and $3 billion in humanitarian relief, make up the total, which represents a significant increase in US support.
