Due to a knee injury, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers will be unable to play in Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

James, 37, has dealt with a variety of injuries this season, including a sprained ankle, abdominal strain, and knee swelling and soreness, which have cost him a few games.

When he's healthy, he's averaging 30.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game while shooting 52.3 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from three. He hasn't averaged more than 29.7 points per game since the 2009-10 season. He's also been one of the few bright spots for a Lakers team that has been in disarray for much of the season.

Anthony Davis, who is presently out with an injury, has battled to stay on the court. Russell Westbrook has been a horrible fit for James and Davis, and his play has deteriorated. The team's roster construction is questionable, therefore they don't have much shooting or balance. Frank Vogel has been on the hot seat for the majority of the season. And the club is simply hoping to make it to the Western Conference play-in tournament, let alone the playoffs.

This is hardly the kind of season an 18-time All-Star, four-time MVP, and four-time champion wants in his final season. The Lakers, in their attempt to stay afloat, do not want James to get hurt. Carmelo Anthony and Malik Monk, for example, are expected to play a larger part for the Lakers, who are currently short-handed.
