In order to face a "world in risk," UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appealed for unity and collaboration.

At the start of the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday, Guterres made the call.In his statement, Guterres referred to the "broken global financial system," conflicts and climate change, poverty, inequality, hunger, and divisions as examples of the "world in peril" that must be overcome in order to advance human rights, peace, and sustainable development.

Before the high-level gathering at the UNGA began, he said, "Addressing common challenges will require ongoing solidarity as we exhibit the immense promise and potential of this organization."

A large number of world leaders will speak at the UNGA in New York throughout the course of the following week.

According to a Russian diplomatic source, Sergey Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia, has received a visa to attend the annual conference with half the delegation that Moscow had sought.Vasily Nebenzya, the UN ambassador for Russia, wrote to Guterres on September 2 to inform him that Moscow had requested 56 visas from Washington. The American government had granted 24 visas, according to the diplomatic source from Russia.

The United States is generally compelled to permit access to the UN for foreign diplomats under the 1947 UN "headquarters agreement." However, according to Washington, visas can be refused for security, terrorist, and foreign policy grounds.

The UN stated earlier this month that it was speaking with the US on the issue of Russian visas.

Since Russia's invasion of the neighboring Ukrainian territory in February, ties between the two countries have deteriorated. On September 20, the UNGA high-level meeting will get underway.

Several leaders are anticipated to attend the funeral of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, which takes place on September 19. There are currently no modifications to the plan.

This has raised some questions about the proceedings, but the UN has stated that the Monday conference on education would go as scheduled. About 90 leaders had already indicated that they would be there.

According to his spokesperson, the UN chief will not go to London for the queen's funeral.
