Christian Atsu, a former Newcastle winger, has not been seen since Monday's earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. Despite earlier claims that the 31-year-old Ghanaian had been rescued, Hatayspor's director announced on Wednesday that he has still not been seen.
Following the huge earthquakes that have devastated parts of Turkey and neighboring Syria, Volkan Demirel, director at Atsu's club Hatayspor, told Reuters on Wednesday that the player had still not been found despite it having been announced he had been pulled from the rubble and taken to the hospital on Monday.
Demirel added, "There is no information on his location at this time; we don't know where he is. "It's not true that he was transported elsewhere or yanked out.
Atsu is still being sought after, Demirel added. The Ghanaian international spent nearly ten years at Chelsea and Newcastle United before signing with Turkish Super Lig team Hatayspor in September 2022.
After teammates and members of the club's technical staff were said to have been extricated from the rubble, Atsu was declared missing.
