Over the weekend, lightning struck Brazil's famous Christ the Redeemer statue, leaving startled social media users after the bolt was captured on camera.
It's strange that the 125-foot statue in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, which receives about two million visitors annually, has been struck by lightning three times in the past 15 years.
The religious figure's head was struck by the bolt on February 10, causing a flash that has since been seen by millions of people all over the world—still an extremely unusual occurrence.

Some people were able to take pictures of the event, with photographer Fernando Braga recording both pictures and video of the lightning strike as it occurred.
The astounding media, which is now being shared online, has captivated many people and has had over 20 million views.
Unbelievably, a user pointed out that the statue, which was declared one of the new Seven Wonders of the World in 2007, has already been struck by lightning twice in less than two decades, in 2008 and 2014.
