China criticizes the spy agencies of the US and the UK

Shanghai (AP) — China continued its acerbic rhetoric on Thursday in response to American allegations of Chinese espionage and threats to the global order, claiming that the United States is "the biggest threat to world peace, stability, and prosperity."A day after the FBI director and the head of Britain's domestic intelligence agency issued fresh alerts against the Chinese government, warning industry executives that Beijing is determined to steal their technology for competitive advantage, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhao Lijian made his remarks. The heightened tone comes ahead of a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Saturday at the Group of 20 ministerial summit of leading rich and developing countries in Bali, Indonesia.

Zhao responded to a question regarding FBI Director Christopher Wray's remarks reiterating long-standing concerns in denouncing economic espionage and hacking operations by China as well as the Chinese government's attempts to stifle dissent abroad by saying that "the relevant U.S. politician has been playing up the so-called China threat to smear and attack China."
The United States is the biggest threat to global peace, stability, and growth, according to facts, Zhao claimed. We admonish this American official to adopt the proper viewpoint, see China's developments objectively and rationally, and to cease spreading false information and making careless comments.

In an effort to demonstrate the solidarity of the West, Wray delivered his statement in MI5's London headquarters alongside the organization's director general, Ken McCallum.

"We continually perceive that the Chinese government poses the most long-term threat to our economic and national security," Wray said to the audience. By "our," he meant both of our countries as well as our allies in Europe and other places.

The Chinese government, according to McCallum, is "the most game-changing challenge we face" with its "covert pressure across the globe."

China has adopted a more assertive foreign policy under Xi Jinping, the country's president and leader of the ruling Communist Party, joining Russia in an effort to lessen the power of the United States and its allies.

Despite criticizing Western sanctions on Moscow and blaming Washington and NATO for inciting the crisis, Beijing has declined to denounce Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which is anticipated to take center stage at the G-20 foreign ministers meeting.

At the same time, the party exercises extensive control over all Chinese institutions and businesses, both public and private, in an effort to rule over rising markets and technological advancements.

In his speech on Wednesday, McCallum referred to the Chinese government's "covert pressure across the globe" as "the most game-changing threat we face."

Zhao reacted by claiming that British intelligence was "just projecting their own dirty acts onto China."

He suggested that the director of the British intelligence service "should cast away (his) evil in mind, come out of the dark room and see the sunshine, and not always cling on to the zero-sum mentality or conjure up so-called fictional adversaries.

Zhao criticized Blinken's remarks at the NATO meeting in Spain last week, in which he claimed China was "trying to destabilize the rules-based international order."
