In the parent business of the Dutch brewer Heineken, Bill Gates invested $902 million.
In 2018, Gates stated on a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" post that he "is not a big beer drinker."
In 2007, the billionaire invested $392 million in Femsa, one of Mexico's biggest breweries.
Bill Gates purchased a $902 million stake in Dutch producer Heineken despite earlier declaring that he is "not a huge beer drinker."
According to paperwork submitted to the Netherlands' Financial Markets Authority on February 17, the billionaire bought a 3.76% share in Heineken Holding NV, the parent company of Heineken. According to the report, he purchased 4.18 million shares through the William and Melinda Gates Foundation Trust and 6.65 million shares directly from the beer company.

As of Friday's market close—the day of the transaction—Gates' total investment was worth approximately 848 million euros, or roughly $901.6 million. The co-founder of Microsoft has previously admitted that he doesn't drink much beer.
2018 saw a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" post where Gates was questioned about his preferred brew.
Gates replied, "I am not a big beer drinker," adding that if he went to a baseball game, for instance, he would "drink light beer to get with the vibe of all the other beer drinkers."
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which the billionaire and his ex-wife, Melinda French Gates, established decades ago, provided funds for a research about the health effects of alcohol drinking that was released last July. According to the report, "stronger interventions" are required, especially for younger people, in order to lessen the significant worldwide health loss related to alcohol.
Insider's request for comment from the William & Melinda Gates Foundation was not immediately answered.
But, the Microsoft co-founder has already made a beer firm investment.
Long before his Reddit post and the health study, in 2007, Gates invested $392 million in Femsa, one of the biggest breweries in Mexico. According to a press release from the company, Femsa, the biggest Coca-Cola bottler, sold its brewery to Heineken in 2010 and is now divesting from the beer giant.
