The 2023 BET Awards, was hosted at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 25. The renowned award has developed into one of the hip-hop industry's most competitive award categories.
Latto's impressive victory in the Best Female Hip Hop Artist category at this year's BET Awards sees her edge out a slew of rappers who could easily have ended up in the same place. Candidates including Cardi B, Coi Leray, GloRilla, Ice Spice, Megan Thee Stallion, and Nicki Minaj were nominated in the utterly loaded category.
At the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, where she received the Best Female Hip Hop Artist award from the Sistas cast in front of a raucous audience, Latto declared that the "category is going crazy this year."
Shout-out to some of the female candidates who, in my opinion, deserved nominations, Latton stated. "Doechii, my baby, I love you. Maya Flo Milli, the Don. Oh my God, my mind is blank. Mello Thank you, TiaCorine. Salutations to all women. We are excelling. This year is the year of the woman, or the feminine. Do you agree that we should see an all-female tour? quite soon. Keep crushing it.
Latto has successfully advanced in the rap game throughout the last year. Her name has been in the news thanks to collaborations, new singles, and tours. She was a Grammy Award nominee for Best New Artist in February. The song "Lottery" by Latto was also released in same month. In March, she collaborated with Lola Brooke on the remix of "Don't Play With It," which also includes Yung Miami. With the success of "Put It on Da Floor," Latto has gained additional praise from the critics.
The track, which arrived in April, received a special remix with Cardi B called "Put It on Da Floor Again." Hitting No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, the song's most popular lyrics, "Rip me out the plastic, I been actin' brand new," has been quoted across social media countless times, and has only added to the song's ubiquity.
