A North Carolina teenager was hospitalized with severe burns covering approximately 80% of his damaged body as a result of a risky challenge on TikTok.
Mason Dark, 16, was dared by a group of TikTokers to construct a torch out of a spray paint can and a lighter, which resulted in grisly photographs of Mason becoming viral.
The TT users frequently get together online to build little flamethrowers, but this time their improvised endeavor failed when Dark was enveloped in flames after the can detonated.
Dark sprinted to a river not far from his Wake Forest residence and plunged in to douse the fire. He had third-degree burns on 76 percent of his body when he came out of the water, including his face.
His mother Holli said of him on Fox affiliate WRAL News, "He is unrecognizable, unrecognizable." She added that her kid had previously undergone skin graft procedures, which replace damaged skin with fresh skin from undamaged areas of the body, after being brought to a burn clinic. Dark is anticipated to be in the hospital for a minimum of six months.
Holli continued, "While he was trying to remove it at the riverbed, his flaming, bunched-up T-shirt was seared into his skin."She continued, saying, "The way he looked when those kids saw him when he first came in, to what he looks like now, it's 100 times different." Since the accident last week, his physical condition has only gotten worse.
