NORTH Nevada's Las Vegas — According to police records acquired by The Associated Press, Las Vegas police detained and searched the house of a former "Dances With Wolves" performer on Tuesday who is charged with sexually assaulting young Indigenous girls over a 20-year period.

Nathan Lee Pursuit Nathan Chasing Horse, also known as His Horse, was apprehended in the afternoon close to a North Las Vegas property. As detectives investigated the premises in the evening, SWAT officers were visible outside the two-story house.

Chasing Horse gained a reputation among tribes across the United States and Canada as a so-called medicine man who performed healing ceremonies and spiritual gatherings and, according to police, used his position to abuse young Native American girls. Chasing Horse is best known for his role as the young Sioux tribe member Smiles a Lot in the Oscar-winning Kevin Costner movie.

His capture is the result of a lengthy investigation that started in October 2022 after police got a tip. Additionally, it comes at a time when Congress and state attorneys general across the United States are considering setting up specialist divisions to handle cases involving Native women.

The attorney general's office in South Dakota has shifted its attention to crimes against Native Americans, such as murder and human trafficking.

According to a 50-page search warrant obtained by the AP, Las Vegas police have discovered sexual allegations against Chasing Horse dating to the early 2000s in several states, including Montana, South Dakota, and Nevada, where he has lived for about ten years. They have also identified at least six alleged victims.

As of Tuesday night, there was no attorney listed in court documents for Chasing Horse who could speak for him.
