Next week, President Joe Biden will make another appearance in New Jersey as part of his impressive fundraising tour.According to an invitation acquired by POLITICO, Biden will visit Gov. Phil Murphy at his residence on Thursday. A person with knowledge of it claimed that the Red Bank stop was a "million dollar fundraiser" for the DNC's grassroots victory fund.
It will be at least Biden's second significant fundraising event on that day. The president will also attend a fundraiser in New York City held at James and Kathryn Murdoch's residence. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chair Gary Peters will also be present at that fundraiser for the DSCC (D-Mich.).
As the midterm elections draw near, Biden has increased his fundraising efforts in the hopes that a financial boost will help his party keep control of Congress. Meanwhile, Murphy has distinguished himself among Democratic governors as a significant presence on the national stage.
During the president's time in office, the New Jersey Democrat and Biden developed a close friendship. In recent months, officials from the Biden administration have visited the state frequently, including U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, and HHS Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine.
As the leader of the Democratic Governors Association, Murphy frequently travels to Washington, D.C., where he meets with Jill Biden, the First Lady, and other Biden officials to discuss the teacher shortage.
If Biden decides not to run for reelection, Murphy is also widely believed to be thinking about it.
