William Shatner has criticized more recent Star Trek shows and argued that none of them can compare to the original.

The 91-year-old actor, who, of course, portrayed Captain T. Kirk of the Enterprise in numerous TV and film projects from 1966 to 1994, has commented on the abundance of current spin-offs, which have recently featured the likes of Picard, Discovery, and Strange New Worlds.

He was asked if any of the current Star Trek programs were comparable to his own when he was present at San Diego Comic-Con by a fan.

Shatner insisted that "none of them" compare, even saying that the franchise's originator Gene Roddenberry would be upset with how things have turned out.
As stated by The Hollywood Reporter, "I got to know [founder] Gene Roddenberry in three years rather well." He'd be shaking his head in his grave at some of this, others say.

The sci-fi great was asked to address viewers of the other major property in the genre at another point during the debate, which was being moderated by Kevin Smith, and he kept it short and to the point as is his style. He joked. However, Smith added, "But not Mark Hamill," saying, "We love Mark Hamill."

The seasoned actor revealed on Thursday that he was frightened of "making a Freudian slip" when attending his first-ever fan gathering.According to him, it was the early 1970s in New York and he declared, "I'm a serious actor, I'm not going to go." "No, no, it's 15,000 people at a hotel," was the reply I received. In order to discover that there are no queues, I went and [experienced] the anxiety of stepping in front of those folks."I was most afraid of making a Freudian error!" You unintentionally say something that might be a little more public than you intended.

Shatner's character was killed off in the 1994 film Star Trek Generations, and he has consistently stated he doesn't wish to reprise the role, so any fans hoping to see him back aboard the Enterprise one day will be disappointed.

In 2020, he stated, "I think Kirk's story is fairly well played out at this point." I don't do cameos (that one dates back to 2008 & JJ), and Kirk's story is the best one of any captain's to have been told.

Kirk passed away in Generations. What actually remains? escapades in the ribbon?
