With her new MSNBC anchor job, Chris Jansing promises “the unvarnished narrative.”

As the new anchor of "MSNBC's Chris Jansing Reports," Chris Jansing says she's eager to focus on facts and "old-fashioned good news."

"I don't recall a moment this intense, and in many ways as consequential to regular Americans, back to back," Jansing says in an interview with ITK this week, ahead of her debut as the face of the cable network's 1 p.m. hour on Thursday."It's relentless," she remarked, citing inflation, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, a leaked draft Supreme Court rule overturning Roe v. Wade, the midterm elections, and the COVID-19 epidemic as examples. "And so part of what we want to do is create a secure environment where folks can come and know they'll get the whole story." That's all there is to it – that's simply the truth."

Following a programming rearrangement that saw the Chuck Todd-hosted "Meet the Press Daily" migrate to NBC News' streaming platform, the veteran journalist — who has spent more than two decades at MSNBC — was chosen the new anchor earlier this month.

The reshuffle coincides with MSNBC's recent influx of high-profile appointments from the Biden administration. Vice President Harris's former spokeswoman, Symone Sanders, debuted her own weekend show on MSNBC in early May, while ex-White House press secretary Jen Psaki was selected as the host of a new streaming show set to debut next year on Tuesday.

"It doesn't effect my work," Jansing said when asked if opinion programming run by renowned Democrats has an impact on her work. And I'll be honest: I'll be 23 years at MSNBC and NBC News next month, and no one at MSNBC has ever suggested that I tilt my reporting in any manner over that time. I couldn't work there even if they did."

"Do people understand the difference between what Symone and I do?" Jansing answered, "Of course they do." "Do they come to us for a variety of reasons?" says the narrator. They do, in my opinion."

"I believe that reporting, analysis, and opinion have a place in society." I'm a fan of it. And I've always believed that giving people both sides of a story allows them to make an important decision," she continued, referring to old-fashioned reporting.

Jansing told ITK from Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport that she expects to keep piling up frequent flier miles covering not only major, breaking news events, but also subjects that "deserve more attention."

The senior national correspondent stated, "I've actually traveled around the world." "And there's no alternative for being present at a major news event." Being on the ground where important news breaks is something we'll definitely prioritize."

Jansing claimed her lunchtime plans are different than her focus for "MSNBC's Chris Jansing Reports."

"I've filled up every single hour of the day on MSNBC, and I always have the same question: When am I meant to eat?" Jansing explained, "I'm always hungry."

"To be honest, it'll have to be an early breakfast, an early light lunch, and a second light lunch in the afternoon before dinner."

"You've probably seen a grumpy Chris Jansing on MSNBC. She remarked, "It isn't pretty."

Jansing credits her profession to her large family, which she grew up in as one of 12 children in Ohio.

Every night, at her father's insistence, the entire family sat down to watch the evening newscasts.

Jansing, 65, recalls how vital it was to him for his children to not just be educated, but also to participate in the democratic process.

"But I think more than that, when you're the youngest of 12, you have to ask a lot of questions or you'll get left behind," Jansing added.

"I didn't realize my eldest sister was my sister until I was around 412 years old, despite the fact that she was nearly 20 years older when she left the family right around the time I was born."

"She used to come over and visit all the time, and one day I overheard her calling my mother 'Mom.' 'How come you're calling her mother?' I asked. 'Because she is my mum,' she replied. Jansing said, "I'm your sister."

"As a result, I quickly discovered that asking questions is an excellent approach to gather information."
