British Mother Won’t Celebrate Jubilee Due to Harry and Meghan’s Mistreatment

The mother of two has joined a chorus of British citizens who have expressed concerns about the monarchy's future and the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Anita Champaneri, a public relations specialist and former royal enthusiast from Birmingham, told Reuters that she "doesn't want" to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee because of the way Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were treated as royals.

"As a non-white person, people felt really, really part of it," said Champaneri, who flew to Windsor to be among the crowds for Harry and Meghan's wedding day in 2018.

The couple's behavior since their wedding day, as well as claims made by Harry and Meghan in their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, including that an unnamed member of the royal family made racially insensitive comments about the future skin color of the couple's first child, have changed Champaneri's opinion of the royals."This year it feels like I really don't want [to celebrate] because we're celebrating a family who can't do right within themselves," she said."Whether it's the way Harry and Meghan have been treated, or the way Archie hasn't been accepted because he hasn't been given a princedom, or the way they've turned a blind eye to Andrew's shenanigans."

Meghan also brought up Archie's title during her interview with Winfrey, noting that Archie was denied the title of prince due of perceived prejudice inside the royal household, as far as she knew.

"They were saying they didn't want him to be a prince or a princess," Meghan told Winfey, referring to members of the family, "and that he wouldn't be receiving security."

"If he's not going to be a prince," Meghan remarked, "it's like, OK, well, he needs to be secure."

"Now, we're not saying he shouldn't be a prince or princess…

"However, if the headline is what would effect their protection, we haven't built a clickbait and tabloid fodder monster around us." You've permitted it to happen, thus our youngster must be protected."
Despite Harry and Meghan's efforts during the Winfrey interview to give their side of the story about them in the British press, the public as a whole has an unfavorable opinion of Meghan.

Meghan is hated by 47 percent of British adults, according to study conducted for Newsweek this month by Redfield & Wilton, compared to 24 percent who like her.

In polls, 37 percent of Brits prefer Harry, compared to 36 percent who do not.

However, some, such as Champaneri, believe that Harry and Meghan's mistreatment represents the monarchy's outdated and narrow outlook.

Michael Davis, a 62-year-old Jamaican-born man, was also questioned by Reuters and said that, while he loves the queen, he is not enthusiastic about the monarchy's future.

"I adore the queen," he said.

"How she perseveres despite adversity." Her husband died, her children are going through a lot, and she continues to fulfill her responsibilities. That's something I respect."

"I'm not sure how things will be after the queen dies away," he continued, "since we all know how kingdoms rise and fall throughout history."

Royal Family Concerns
As London prepares for the core weekend of celebrations honoring the queen's Platinum Jubilee—the first in British history—concerns about the royals have been expressed among those attending the activities.

Momin Rashid, 12, will perform in the jubilee pageant on Sunday, June 5 along The Mall outside Buckingham Palace, but his involvement in a dancing exhibition does not mean he feels a link to the crown or the queen, according to Reuters.

"I'm a little nervous because 10,000 people is a lot, and I might mess up the dancing movements," Rashid added, when asked if he felt close to the royal family by Reuters.

In Britain, support for the monarchy is strong, with 58 percent of adults favoring preserving the monarchy for the time being, compared to 25% who believe the country should become a republic after the queen's death.

Elizabeth II is the longest-serving female head of state in history, reigning longer than any other British monarch.
