Chuck Todd, moderator of NBC's Meet the Press, predicted a disaster for Democrats in the 2022 midterm elections during a piece on the show on Sunday. His remarks come in the wake of a new CNN poll that found three-quarters of Americans believe the country is on the wrong track.
"In an election year, around May, voters' views on the economy begin to harden. If that idea is correct, Democrats are in big difficulty right now, because only 16% of people in our latest NBC News poll believe the country is heading in the right way, while 75% believe it is heading in the wrong direction," he said. "In fact, for the past seven months, that number has been 70 or above, which has historically indicated significant losses for the ruling party."Despite continued inflation and supply-chain difficulties, a baby-formula scarcity, conflict in Ukraine, still-frequent migrant surges across the southern border, and other grave issues, President Biden's support rating continues to decline. According to an NBC News poll, only 39% of adults in the United States and 42% of registered voters approve of Biden's performance nearly two years into his term. Adults are 56% dissatisfied with Biden's job performance, while registered voters are 54% dissatisfied.
"President Biden's approval rating has dropped to an all-time low. Only 39% of people approve of his job performance, while 56% do not. In fact, in this poll, the president is as unpopular as Donald Trump," Todd continued.
Following the revelation of a draft Supreme Court opinion earlier this month that might overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion on a national level, the poll suggested that abortion is becoming a more significant topic for Americans. According to the research, inflation and the economy are the two issues that people are most concerned about. This discovery may allay GOP officials' fears that a Roe v. Wade reversal would jeopardize the party's predicted election gains, which have so far been substantial.
According to reporter Jim Geraghty, abortion did not even score at 1% in the last four monthly Gallup polls asking Americans, "What do you believe is the most significant problem confronting the country today?"
