On Saturday night, the annual White House Correspondents Association dinner convened for the first time since 2019, and for the first time since Barack Obama in 2016, with a sitting president. Trevor Noah, a stand-up comedian, served as the show's special guest host, and he did not disappoint. He hit everyone with haymakers.
The present president of South Africa was slammed by the comedian. The former president was mocked by him. As expected, he targeted the Republican Party and Fox News. He also made fun of CNN, Chris Cuomo, MSNBC, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Republicans in general, newsmaking Democrats in general, and, well, pretty much everyone else he could think of in the time allocated.President Joe Biden ended his monologue, which included comedy and serious topics, before Noah took the stage. Biden admitted that he was about to be roasted in front of not only the 2,600 people in the Washington hotel ballroom, but also millions of people watching on television.Biden claimed that in the United States, free speech against the president would not result in the comedian's imprisonment, as it would in Russia.
Mr. President, are you serious?" "I'm not going to jail?" Noah was the one who initiated the conversation. The comic announced that he would switch up his routine, which elicited a round of applause from the audience.
Noah then launched his hilarious assault on the audience, which elicited laughs and even "oohs" throughout. The following are some of Noah's comments from the evening.
"I'd like you to know that I'm not here to tear anyone down, okay?" Like a pair of testicles on a Tucker Carlson special, I might roast softly. I'm not doing this for the sake of gaining attention. I'm not Kyrsten Sinema, but I'm a stand-up comedian. By the way, Kyrsten Sinema deserves your vote. Who'd have guessed that the day would come in American politics when a senator could be publicly bisexual while remaining a staunch Republican? That's a step forward, that's a step forward."
After Will Smith stormed the stage to hit Chris Rock across the face during the Oscars, Noah admitted that he was "nervous" about hosting such an event.
That became a Kellyanne Conway joke, according to Noah.
"I won't lie to you, I'm a little concerned about tonight." "What if I make a really harsh joke about Kellyanne Conway, and her husband runs up on stage and praises me?" I thought.
Noah praised news journalists' work, but then he slammed CNN, specifically former presenter Chris Cuomo.
"What those folks don't realize is that you guys are honest, and you'd never let your personal relationships interfere with your ability to be effective journalists." Chris Coumo, don't you agree? By the way, where's Chris? Is he in the room with you? "Are you unable to attend?" Noah expressed his thoughts.
The comedian's jokes swiftly returned to Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Noah joked with the wine-swilling throng that if they needed a ride home, they might contact Abbott, who just brought illegal immigrants from Texas on a bus to Washington, D.C.
"A quick word before people take Ubers home tonight: Governor Greg Abbott usually provides free shuttles for the Telemundo table." "It's all about the class," says the narrator.
Then he went after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' freshly signed "Don't Say Gay" bill.
"Ron is portraying a calm and collected individual. He won't say whether or not he got the booster, or, as they say in Florida, "don't ask, don't tell." Is that the case? Ron, I'll be there."
Then Noah shifted gears to take aim at the president. Noah, a bi-racial South African, explained why he was chosen by mentioning his own race—obviously referring to Barack Obama.
"Mr. President, thank you for being here, thank you for having me here, and I was a little perplexed as to why me, until I was told that when a bi-racial African person stands next to you, you receive your highest approval ratings." So, Joe, what did you say? "I'm delighted I was able to contribute, and I'm hoping this will work out."
Noah then claimed that former Vice President Joe Biden's wife, Dr. Jill Biden, supported for Bernie Sanders in the 2016 presidential election.
"An interesting fact is that even as first lady, Dr. Biden continued to teach, making her the first presidential spouse to do so." Congratulations. You would think it's because she enjoys teaching so much, but it's actually because she still owes money on her college loans. Jill, I apologize for that. Yes, I believe you should have voted for Bernie Sanders."
Biden was then commended for everything that "looked up" during his presidency, but then chastised for "up" in the sense of gas, inflation, and rent.
"To be honest, I would have perfectly understood if you hadn't come, because these people have been so harsh on you, which I don't understand." I'm not sure, but I believe things have improved dramatically since you've joined the team. Gas prices have risen, rent prices have risen, and food prices have risen as well. No, Mr. President, you have had a difficult first year and must be concerned about 2024.
"Since taking office, Vice President Biden has guided the country through some very difficult periods, including the avian flu pandemic, the Ukraine war, and the introduction of CNN Plus. Also, don't forget that in his first year in office, he achieved a number of important legislative victories. I should also mention that he got a bipartisan infrastructure bill enacted, which covers everything from restoring America's roads and bridges to modernizing school buses, which Matt Gaetz's girlfriend is quite excited about."
Jen Psaki, the White House Press Secretary, was also mocked for catching COVID-19 for the second time.
"Let me ask you a question: how do you stay COVID-free?" Noah was the one who initiated the conversation. "Like your employer, Jen, he got us all free testing. Is your address unknown to him? What exactly is going on?
"It's been rumored that Jen Psaki will be joining MSNBC next month. Apparently, simply appearing on C-SPAN was not enough of a challenge for her, and she desired a change of pace. If this is the case, I congratulate Jen on her new job. Moving to MSNBC, on the other hand, will be a significant change for you, given your current job is to make the Biden Administration look as good as possible at any costs.
"By the way, MSNBC, I just want to say thank you for all of your hard work. I used to enjoy watching your shows because they were all about how horrible Trump was while he was in government. And now that Biden is in the White House, your shows are all about how awful Trump was. "It's crucial to maintain consistency."
Noah went on to express gratitude to the lawmakers, journalists, celebrities, award winners, and others who were present.
