G7 leaders have united on a strategy to fight concerns including Russia's "weaponization of energy," according to a joint statement released on Saturday.
The G7 summit is taking place in Hiroshima, Japan, and the unexpected guest is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In the declaration, it was stated that "we will cooperate to ensure that attempts to weaponize economic dependencies by forcing G7 members and our partners, including small economies, to comply and conform, will fail and face the consequences."
"Drawing lessons from recent incidents of weaponizing energy and other economic dependencies, we stand firmly against such behavior," it continued.
What it all means is that Russia has long been accused of "weaponizing" energy by tampering with supply and prices in order to acquire political clout.
Since the start of the Ukraine war, Europe in particular has tried to wean itself off of Russian energy.
