Dallas monkey case culprit from Texas claims he would commit the same crime again

According to court papers, a 24-year-old man who has since been connected to a bizarre series of crimes that put the Dallas Zoo on the alert for missing animals told police that after stealing two monkeys from their enclosure, he carried them onto the city's light rail system to flee.

According to the records, Davion Irvin also stated that he loves animals and that if he is released from prison, he will steal more.

Irvin was detained last week after inquiring about the animals at a downtown Dallas aquarium; he was held in custody on a $25,000 bond Tuesday. Six counts of animal cruelty and two counts of burglary are brought against him. Irvin's lawyer, who is mentioned in court documents, did not reply to a request for comment.

According to arrest warrant papers, Irvin informed police that on the night of Jan. 29, he waited until it was dark, scaled a fence to enter the zoo grounds, cut the metal mesh of an enclosure, and removed the two emperor tamarin monkeys.

He walked to the empty house where he claimed to keep his animals after boarding the city's light rail system.
Irvin has been charged in two strange incidents that occurred at the zoo over a period of several weeks and is connected to another, according to the police. Irvin is accused with burglary and six charges of animal cruelty—three for each monkey—in connection with the theft of the monkeys.

He is also accused of breaking and entering in connection with the escape of Nova, a clouded leopard who went missing on January 13. She had a cut, so the zoo was forced to close while a search was conducted. Later that day, she was discovered close to her environment.

According to an affidavit, Irvin admitted to investigators that he had intended to take Nova but that he had only been able to pet her before she climbed onto her enclosure.

Irvin hasn't been charged in connection with the police claim that they have connected him to the destruction of a langur monkey enclosure, which was found after Nova vanished. No langur monkeys managed to escape.
