According to police, two guys went on a stabbing spree in at least 13 locations across two communities in central Canada, leaving ten people dead and at least 15 injured.
In the Saskatchewan province's James Smith Cree Nation and adjacent hamlet of Weldon, police responding to emergency calls on Sunday discovered 10 bodies, according to Royal Canadian Mounted Police Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore.15 of the additional casualties have already been taken to various hospitals, according to her statement.
She said that more victims might have arrived at hospitals on their own.
The attacks were described as "horrific and tragic" by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who also stated that the government was actively following the situation.
He posted on Twitter, "I'm thinking about those who lost a loved one and of those who were hurt."Damien Sanderson and Myles Sanderson were identified by the police as the two suspects in the shooting. The two guys, who were described as being in their early 30s, were last seen driving a black Nissan Rogue and were last seen in Regina, the provincial capital, which is located around 320 kilometers (200 miles) south of the attacks' scene.
Police in Saskatchewan issued a dangerous persons notice for the entire province; later, officials in neighboring Alberta and Manitoba, a vast area about half the size of Europe, followed suit.
A local state of emergency was issued by the 2,500-person James Smith Cree Nation.Weldon resident Diane Shier claims that on Sunday morning as she was in her garden, she noticed emergency personnel nearby.
Shier reported the death of her neighbor. Out of respect for their family, she didn't want to mention the victim's name.
She told the Associated Press news agency, "I lost a good neighbor, and I am terribly saddened. What happened in our province today is awful, according to Blackmore of the police.
It seems that some of the victims may have been targeted while others may have been chosen at random. So it would be quite difficult at this moment to discuss a motivation, she continued.
