Former Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) should be removed from his position as Senate minority leader, President Trump demanded on Wednesday, branding the lawmaker a "pawn for the Democrats."Trump called for McConnell to be removed from his lengthy leadership position in a statement, citing a piece published in The Federalist on Wednesday regarding the senator's and his wife Elaine Chao's apparent connections to China.
In his comments, Trump said that Mitch McConnell "is not an opposition leader; he is a pawn for the Democrats to gain anything they want." He won't carry out the necessary actions since he is terrified of them. It's time to choose a new Senate Republican leader right away!
Trump and McConnell have been at odds ever since the Senate majority leader criticized the former president in Congress for his involvement in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, earning the nickname "Old Crow."
The former president criticized McConnell over the weekend for remarks he made last week about the "candidate quality" of Republicans running for the Senate, many of whom were chosen by Trump. According to McConnell, the battle for control of the Senate in November will be close.Trump also made fun of Chao, his former secretary of transportation who left her position one day after the attack on January 6, referring to her as McConnell's "crazy wife." He referred to her as "Coco" in his communication from Wednesday.
Trump also demanded last year that Republicans pick a new Senate leader to increase their chances of retaking control of Congress in 2022.
Then, Trump stated, "I think we're going to do very well." "We require capable leadership. Since Mitch McConnell hasn't done a fantastic job, I believe they should replace him.
In a statement on Wednesday, Trump criticized McConnell for failing to block the passage of the historic tax, healthcare, and climate package known as the Inflation Reduction Act and accused him of giving the "Radical Left the Trillions and Trillions of Dollars that they continuously DEMAND" (IRA).
In fact, Democrats have had to find ways to get around adamant GOP opposition to their big spending projects, such as when President Biden used his authority this week to erase student debt and enacted the IRA through the budget reconciliation process to avoid a filibuster.
