The Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo wants to go, but where would he go?

As Ronaldo has made it clear he wants to leave Old Trafford and compete in the Champions League, Julien Laurens, Guillem Balague, and Raphael Honigstein have been debating the forward's future.

United is prepared to let the 37-year-old attacker go after expressing worries about how his attitude is impacting the camp's morale.

Additionally, Balague stated on the Euro Leagues podcast that "he should not be at United" for a number of reasons.

Ronaldo, who returned to Old Trafford for a second stint in August 2021, was not a fan of the tactics that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's replacement, interim manager Ralf Rangnick, tried to employ after Solskjaer was fired in early December.

Since the advent of his new employer Erik ten Hag, he doesn't seem much happier.Balague declared he was "fascinated" to hear Rangnick's perspective on the predicament while he was in charge.

I believe Rangnick advised getting rid of him, and if that is the case, United shouldn't be shocked if he took the initiative, the player remarked.

Ronaldo's desire to leave is obvious, but United may have been caught off guard by what Ronaldo wants to accomplish because they are overly reactive or lack courage.Ronaldo is wanted by someone, but there is no room for him.
Although the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has been linked to Atletico Madrid, Sporting Lisbon, and Borussia Dortmund, there have been no formal offers.

According to Balague, he wants to continue playing until he is 41 years old, and someone needs to remind him that "beggars can't be choosers."

No one can speak to him like that now, but he can no longer select where he goes, according to Balague. Although [Diego] Simeone wants him at Atletico, there isn't room for him and the supporters aren't interested.

He has nowhere to go at the moment because Atletico has no room in their pay cap, as do I'm sure many other clubs.

The highest-paid player in the Premier League, Ronaldo is beyond of many clubs' financial reach due to his pay.

Laurens questioned why the legendary Real Madrid star, who became their all-time greatest scorer with 451 goals in 438 appearances, would want to join city rivals Atletico.

"I find that puzzling – only to add a couple extra goals in the Champions League? I find that difficult to comprehend, therefore I would struggle with it, said Laurens.

No matter how old or expensive Ronaldo is, according to Honigstein, signing him puts a team "on the map."

Wow, Ronaldo, wonderful – the exposure, the media, the products – if we can acquire him we would be stupid not to, think owners and investors.

But Ronaldo enjoys being the center of attention, which seems more improbable at United given that it's still unknown how Ten Hag's system will accommodate him.

Honigstein added, "We have heard from so many clubs and coaches who say they don't see how he will fit and would prefer someone younger or more energetic.

Could United be compelled to void Ronaldo's contract and allow him leave for free if he is unable to find a team willing to sign him?

Given the troubles in the locker room allegedly becoming toxic to the team environment, Honigstein said that would be "sensational" but "not out of the question.

There is no offer, he continued, and it would be challenging to locate a place for him right now.To ensure you never miss a moment, follow your team and enable notifications in the BBC Sport app. Our coverage of your Premier League club is larger and better than ever.
