In Brunswick, Maryland, on Thursday, an Amtrak train struck a tractor-trailer that was stopped on railroad tracks; the tractor-trailer was then pushed into a truck, according to authorities. No one was injured.

At before 5:15 p.m., Amtrak Capitol Limited Train 29 was traveling from Washington, D.C., to Chicago when it struck a tractor-trailer carrying timber, according to Amtrak and the Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services.According to Amtrak, none of the 142 passengers or staff members on board the train were wounded. According to the fire service, the truck driver was brought to a hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening. The other driver of the truck was unharmed.

The tractor-trailer was reportedly on the railroad tracks and stalled in traffic close to the MARC station in Brunswick when the crossing bars started to close, according to witnesses.According to a statement from the fire department, "there was nowhere to go because of the backup and no way for the train to stop, so the back passenger side [of the tractor-trailer] was stuck, throwing it into the passenger truck and causing it to impact the building."

The tractor-trailer was thrown across both lanes of S. Maple Avenue by the force of the locomotive striking it.

Near the train tracks, images from the fire department show lumber reduced to splinters.

According to the rail company, Amtrak is conducting an investigation alongside local law enforcement. They warned people to drive and walk with "great caution" near railroad tracks and crossings.
