Following a vote on Sunday to reject a contract offer from the plane maker, some 2,500 Boeing employees at three plants in the St. Louis area are anticipated to walk off the job next month. After the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 837 union rejected the deal, the strike is set to start on August 1 at Boeing production facilities in St. Charles County, St. Louis County, and Mascoutah, Illinois, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

According to the union, "this firm continues to make billions of dollars every year off the backs of our hardworking members, so we cannot accept a contract that is not fair and equitable."Boeing issued a statement in which it expressed its disappointment over the vote but also stated that it will now implement its "contingency plan to maintain continuity of operations in the event of a strike."

According to a Boeing representative, the contract offer made by the business featured competitive hikes as well as a generous retirement program that saw Boeing match employee contributions to retirement plans up to 10% of employees' salaries.

When it issues its upcoming quarterly earnings report on Wednesday, Boeing is anticipated to provide an update on its financial situation this week. Although Boeing earlier this year disclosed a $1.2 billion loss for the first quarter, the corporation just last week disclosed that Delta Air Lines had placed an order for 100 of its 737 aircraft.
