(UPI) — On June 14, the United Press International (UPI) published an article titled Vice President Kamala Harris hosted a panel of experts on Tuesday to examine the ramifications of overturning Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court."I've asked these — these experts to come here and talk with me about how we can best prepare the American people for the consequences of this decision — in terms of their lives and the choices that they are able to make and have a right to make — so that, at the very least, people can be prepared," Harris said in a statement.

"I believe that overturning Roe would pave the door for challenges to other fundamental rights, including as the right to use contraception and same-sex marriage."Experts in law, privacy, and technology joined Harris to discuss the ramifications of the Supreme Court potentially overturning the 1973 ruling, which has protected a pregnant woman's freedom to choose whether or not to have an abortion since then.

Harris mentioned the potential for privacy and data breaches, as well as access to in vitro fertilization.

"One is the question of data privacy," she said in a statement, "and the possibility that if Roe is reversed, states that have criminalized abortion could subpoena a woman's personal data."

"I'm concerned that if Roe is overturned, states with abortion prohibitions may be forced to restrict IVF if they define life as beginning at fertilization."If the landmark judgment is overturned, abortion will no longer be a federally protected right, and states will be able to restrict or authorize abortion on their own.
The Supreme Court announced in early May that a leaked draft opinion to overturn Roe vs. Wade, which was published anonymously, is legitimate, but emphasized that the draft is not necessarily the final word on the topic.
